Cooking With Gas in the Outer Hebrides.

We had the great good fortune to visit Barra in the Outer Hebrides as part of judging for the BBC’s Food and Farming awards. Seonaid Morrison runs the Airport Cafe here, and has turned it into a beacon of good food, good times and happy travels. It’s hard to express what a remarkable place Barra is, like a beautiful moonscape in many ways, but a few hours here makes you realise that what feels strange to you is someone’s home, the place they raise their kids and work, and their normality. What you can’t miss is the warmth and humour of Hebrideans.

It’s always an honour to visit somewhere so special and try to understand what it takes to live there. I’d love to go back and spend more time there. Maybe when the sun’s out!
